Charity exercise campaign: €9,100 donated
15 years of medi for help
medi for help, medi’s non-profit aid organisation, is celebrating its 15th anniversary and sending out a symbolic message with its charity exercise campaign ‘Gemeinsam viel bewegen’ (Moving mountains together). For the 9,100 patients cared for worldwide to date, colleagues exercised with family and friends, and medi for help donated one euro per kilometre – resulting in a symbolic donation of 9,100 euros. In addition to its long-standing global commitment, medi for help is also increasingly involved at a regional level. The donation of 9,100 euros will therefore go to Kinderseelen e. V., a Bayreuth-based association for children and young people with mental illnesses.
“Since 2010, we have been helping people in emergency situations without access to medical care through medi for help. We want to give them new hope and improve their lives – in line with our motto, “Give a smile”. We are proud that we have been able to care for 9,100 patients worldwide over the past 15 years, including in Haiti, India, Rwanda, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, India and the USA. Together with our colleagues, we now want to set another example and “achieve more together”. Our goal: 9,100 kilometres, which means walking, cycling, swimming, hiking or jogging one kilometre per patient. We are thrilled by the commitment of our colleagues, their families and friends – a total of 15,643 kilometres were covered. As medi is a family-owned company with deep roots in Bayreuth, we would also like to get more involved in the region and are donating the sum of 9,100 euros to Kinderseelen e. V., a Bayreuth-based association for children and young people with mental illnesses,” said Daniela Weihermüller and Carsten Stauf, team medi for help.
9,100 euros for outdoor sports equipment
Kinderseelen e. V. will invest the donation in outdoor sports equipment: “We are delighted about the financial support from medi for help – we are particularly thrilled that the active support of our colleagues made the donation possible. As an association based in Bayreuth, we are particularly pleased about this local solidarity and would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone who got involved on our behalf. We will invest the money in outdoor sports equipment that appeals to all age groups and provides important support for sick children and young people during their therapy. After all, sport
and playful discovery through climbing, sliding and balancing are both a distraction and fun for the youngest and older kids alike,” says Stephan Reinl from Kinderseelen e. V.
15 years of medi for help – we look back on eventful years
In addition to the charity campaign, people who have shaped medi for help will be sharing their stories on medi’s social media channels over the coming months. They will be sharing their special moments from recent years with the community. Dr Michael Weihermüller, founder of medi for help and Chairman of the Advisory Board at medi, said: “We founded medi for help in 2010 after the devastating earthquake in Haiti – and the same applies today as it did then: We are always quick to arrive on site and try to help without any unnecessary delays. We place a strong focus on sustainable help for self-help, which means that local professionals are trained by our experts so that they can, for example, supply the compression products provided themselves in the future. A positive example is Jean Paul, our compression manager in Rwanda. He independently takes care of the supply of pododermatitis patients and, together with medi for help, is systematically building up the compression programme on site.”
