medi for help donates 9,460 euros to breast cancer charity
This is the maximum amount raised by the Pink Run, the charity run organized by the Bayreuth health department and the Gesundheitsregionplus: 9,460 euros. Donated by medi for help to the SenoCura e. V. association, which actively supports the needs of breast cancer patients.
Running, jogging or walking 9,460 kilometers together – for hope, for education and for more solidarity with breast cancer patients. That was the goal of the charity run, which anyone over the age of 18 from Bayreuth and the surrounding area could take part in from September 8 to October 6, 2024: the Pink Run.
The figure of 9,460 kilometers is made up of the mean value of breast cancer incidences in the city and district of Bayreuth in 2019 x 100. For each of the 9,460 kilometers, medi for help has agreed to donate one euro to the Bayreuth association SenoCura e.V. – a symbolic maximum sum of 9,460 euros. The total was far higher: a total of 34,500 kilometers, run by 229 participants. Carsten Stauf from medi for help:“We are overwhelmed by the result and would like to thank everyone who supported the campaign with such commitment and passion. We are delighted to be able to hand over 9,460 euros to the Bayreuth association SenoCura e. V., which campaigns for the interests of breast cancer patients, actively supports them and promotes research projects. We would like to show our solidarity with cancer patients, encourage them and raise awareness. This support is a matter close to our hearts. Due to medi’s core competence in the field of compression, we also care for patients with breast cancer-associated lymphoedema – and regularly receive moving insights into their stories and the strength it requires from those affected and their environment to face the disease.”
Prof. Dr. Christoph Mundhenke, 1st Chairman of SenoCura, adds: “We have been committed for many years to breaking down taboos and providing those affected, their relatives and doctors with as much information and support as possible. Any help, whether financial, such as donations or volunteer work, is welcome. Together we are strong against breast cancer!”
Helping together and raising public awareness
medi for help handed over the symbolic sum of 9,460 euros to the SenoCura e. V. association at a public event at the Bayreuth District Office on October 17, 2024. The three best runners of the Pink Run were also awarded prizes and specialist presentations were given on the topic of life after breast cancer – around 60 people from the city and district of Bayreuth took part.
Katrin Kürzdörfer from Gesunsheitsregionplus explains: “It is very important to us to support breast cancer sufferers and their families – for example, we work closely with self-help groups and the SenoCura e. V. association. Our top priority is to accompany those affected on their way to a speedy recovery and to support them both professionally and mentally. With the Pink Run and the accompanying event at the district administration office, we also want to draw the public’s attention to the importance of prevention and early detection of breast cancer.”
