Current status of the earthquake on Monday, August 14, 2021
After the severe earthquake in southern Haiti, which was followed by torrential tropical rainstorms, search and rescue operations in the earthquake zone are still ongoing. The airport tarmac in Port-au-Prince was set up as a medical supply facility on short notice. Volunteer doctors, medical staff from the Hôpital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) and many other partners provide on-location support.
In addition, our partner HAS set up an emergency operations base in the capital (90 miles from the medi for help location). This temporary headquarters enables rapid participation in relief efforts. The team has partnered with other medical aid and humanitarian organizations to coordinate urgently needed medical assistance, supplies and food for earthquake victims. The logistics experience of our partners in Haiti in the procurement and transport of humanitarian aid plays an important role here.
